Article: The Ultimate Diaper Bag Checklist
The Ultimate Diaper Bag Checklist
Everything this mom refuses to leave the house without (because I've learned the hard way 😅)
If there's one thing motherhood has taught me, it's this:
The diaper bag can either save your day... or absolutely ruin it.
There is almost no in-between.
I've been the mom who confidently walked into a public restroom only to discover I had exactly two wipes left... moments before changing what can only be described as an Olympic-level blowout.
Peace be with you if you've experienced this. 😂
Before we dive further in, here's one thing I've learned after becoming a mom: a good checklist only works if your diaper bag actually keeps everything organized.
I designed the Charlie Lou Diaper Bag after years of juggling babies, bottles, snacks, and everything else that somehow has to come with us. Throughout this guide, you'll see a few photos of the bag I personally use every day.

I've also forgotten pacifiers, extra outfits, snacks, and once found myself changing a diaper in an airport bathroom without a changing pad.
Never. Again.
So after years of trial, error, and a whole lot of "well...that could've gone better," here's what I always keep packed.
🍼 Diapers (More Than You Think)
Rule of thumb?
Take however many diapers you think you'll need...
...then throw in two more.
Because babies have an uncanny ability to know exactly when you packed "just enough."
💦 Wipes (And Check Them!)
This deserves its own category.
Do not simply assume the wipe pack has wipes.
Open it.
Count them.
Because "I'm sure there are plenty left" is famous last words.
Ask me how I know.
🧴 Spray Diaper Cream
Can we all agree this is one of the greatest parenting inventions ever?
No messy fingers.
No trying to spread cream while simultaneously preventing tiny alligator rolls on the changing table.
Just spray.
Done.
Absolute genius.
🧺 A Changing Pad
If you've ever changed a diaper in an airport bathroom...
...you already understand.
God, please let me never find myself in that situation without a changing pad again. 😂
That's actually one of the reasons we include a matching changing pad with our diaper bag.
It's adorable, it wipes clean in seconds, and it gives you a clean place to lay your little one no matter where life takes you.
🍼 Extra Pacifiers
Not one.
Not two.
More than you think any reasonable human could possibly need.
Because the second your baby drops one onto a grocery store floor, you'll suddenly discover the other one disappeared into another dimension.
Also...
Please keep them in a little pacifier case.
Otherwise they'll collect enough lint to knit themselves a sweater.
(If you forgot the case...a little bottled water works surprisingly well for rinsing one off in a pinch.)
❤️ My Favorite Pacifiers
If you're looking for a recommendation, I've always loved FRIGG pacifiers.
I especially like the rounded bulb shape because it seems easier for little ones to keep in their mouths—even when they're sleeping with their mouth slightly open.
Every baby has their own preferences, but these were always our favorite.
🍓 Snacks
Snacks save meltdowns.
Seriously.
A hungry toddler has approximately three minutes before negotiations completely break down.
Keep a few bars, puffs, crackers, or fruit snacks tucked away.
Let them eat cake.
...
Okay, maybe not cake.
Can you imagine? 😂
👕
An Extra Outfit
This isn't for your baby.
Okay...
It is.
But honestly?
Sometimes it's for you too.
Spit-up.
Blowouts.
Juice.
Mud.
Mystery stains.
Life happens.
🧸 Toys (Skip the Silicone... Sometimes)
Hear me out.
I LOVE a good silicone toy.
Ryan & Rose... I'm looking at you. ❤️
But silicone attracts every tiny crumb, piece of fuzz, dog hair, and mystery particle living at the bottom of your diaper bag.
For everyday diaper bag toys, I actually prefer plastic or wooden toys that wipe clean a little easier.
😴 Portable Sound Machine
If your baby slept anywhere...
Congratulations.
I'm genuinely happy for you.
If your firstborn was anything like mine...
Bless you.
And bless everyone currently surviving the colic stage.
A portable sound machine saved us more times than I can count.
💧 Water Bottle
Not glamorous.
Incredibly useful.
Clean sticky hands.
Rinse a pacifier.
Mix formula.
Wash off fruit juice.
Hydrate yourself because somehow moms always forget to drink water.
